Roman Kappeler received his diploma (MSc EEIT ETH) 2007 from ETH Zurich. During his studies he worked at the Institute of Integrated Systems on Sample Rate Converters, in the Laboratory for Electromagnetic Fields and Microwave Electronics and the Electronics Laboratory on circular Bragg gratings, the Institute of Optics in the Nano-Optics Group (Rochester, USA) on Optical Antennae and at the European Space Research and Technology Centre in Nordwijk NL on radiation testing of passive optical components.
In 2006 he joined the Communication Photonics Group and is working together with P. Kaspar in the same project aming the implementation of a photonic crystal based SOA. His focus is on the modeling of active photonic crystals.
