Dr. Oliver Amft is an Assistant Professor at TU Eindhoven (The Netherlands) and a senior research advisor at the Wearable Computing Lab., ETH Zurich (Switzerland).
He received the Dipl.-Ing. (M.Sc.) from Chemnitz Technical University (Germany) in 1999 and the Dr. sc. ETH (Ph.D.) from ETH Zurich in 2008. Both degrees are in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Between 2000 and 2004 Oliver was four years with ABB Inc., leading product development of embedded communication systems as Senior Development Engineer and R&D Project Manager. Since 2004, he is continuing to support early development stages at ABB as technology consultant.

Oliver's research focuses on pervasive healthcare and intelligent personal assistant. His interests include ubiquitous sensing, pattern recognition, and embedded systems for activity, and context awareness. Oliver's PhD thesis introduced concepts and solutions for Automatic Dietary Monitoring. Further projects and information is available at http://www.ee.ethz.ch/~oamft.

Research

My work is focused on pervasive healthcare and smart personal assistant systems. I believe that the next-generation healthcare and wellness solutions can be build, by combining the benefits of electronic miniaturisation (embedded systems and sensors) and artificial intelligence (pattern recognition). As a result, such smart personal assistants intend to prevent diseases and maintain wellbeing using context-aware technologies. Moreover, smart assistants support intervention and rehabilitation processes through activity, behaviour, and lifestyle coaching.
